Training Tips
Training Tips

When you bring a new addition into the house it can be a stressful time.  Many may get overwhelmed and not know how to properly handle the situation.  We hope the links below will help you in your search for training your new companion.  We hope you have many joyful years to come!

**Remember  that puppies are like children. They need constant supervision and training. They do not come pre-trained, and must be raised with consistency to become the best pet they can be. If at any time you have a question approach your breeder for guidance before that problem becomes a larger problem. They have years of experience and expertise invested in their dogs and can often offer invaluable advice. **

Registries
Registries

The AKC and UKC are the two oldest and reputable registries in the US.  AKC is the only US registry recognized worldwide.  UKC often is the jumping off point for new breeds to be recognized in AKC.  Both of these venues hold Conformation dog shows, and a number of other activities to do with your dog such as obedience, tracking, weight pull etc.

**When looking for a well bred puppy from a reputable breeder, these are the registries you want to find, but please do note that registration does not equal quality.  You must have BOTH the registration and a quality breeder that shows or actively works their dogs. Even when looking for "just a pet" **

American Kennel Club (AKC)

United Kennel Club (UKC)

Holds dog shows not really a registry.

International All Breed Canine Association (IABCA)

**Please also note that CKC can mean two different things.  Continental Kennel Club and Canadian Kennel Club.  Continental is not a reputable registry.**

Health
Health

Every breed has genetic predispositions for certain problems within that breed.  A responsible breeder will know those things, and will utilize the available testing to keep from breeding dogs that are effected.  In the Siberian Husky the two things required for testing by the SHCA are OFA Certifications for Hips and an eye exam by an ACVO Vet.  These eye exams may be submitted to OFA, SHCA for a SHOR number, or to CERF if they are found to be clear of heritable eye issues.

**When looking for a well bred puppy from a reputable breeder, these are the two tests you want to see to show that the breeder has knowledge of the breed, and is doing their best to produce healthy puppies.  This is important even when you are looking for "just a pet" **

Coat & Eye Color
Coat & Eye Color

We understand that people may have preferences when looking for their next companion or show puppy; however when looking for a responsible breeder find one that doesn't breed for these things.  A responsible breeder will breed to better a breeds conformation, temperament, etc.  These are the most important things to think about when producing a puppy whether it be to show, or a companion.  You want the puppies to be sound in mind and body, to ensure they live a long and healthy life.  We have preferences too just like everyone, but we realize that moving forward in the breed, health, temperament, conformation, are paramount to our preferences.  Try and be flexible on colors, and focus on the things that are most important.

**With that in mind, eye and coat color are our last concerns and are never a consideration in our breedings.**
